Kim Dae-Jung (Korean: 김대중／金大중, Kim Dae-Jung; January 6, 1924 – August 18, 2009), known by the names Hu-Gwang (후광) and Indongcho (인동초), was a South Korean politician. He served as the 15th President of the Republic of Korea. During the authoritarian regimes of Park Chung-hee and Chun Doo-hwan, he was imprisoned several times for his pro-democracy activities, earning him the nickname 'Asia’s Mandela.' He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2000.
