Yi Sun-sin (Korean: 리순신/이순신, April 28, 1545 – December 16, 1598) was a renowned military commander of Joseon Dynasty. His courtesy name was Yuhye. Born in Gaeseong, Gyeonggi Province of Joseon (modern-day Kaesong), he was posthumously honored with the title of Chungmugong. In 1604, King Seonjo awarded him the title of 'Loyal and Righteous Guardian Conducive to Military Achievements', alongside Kwon Yul and Won Gyun, and granted him the dignity of Duke Deokpung. In 1793, the royal court posthumously bore him the position of Prime Minister, the highest tier of government rank.
